About The CLA
Opening Doors and Promoting your Business
Regional Networks
Through the CLA’s regional networks, members can access the owners and managers of approximately half the rural land in England and Wales and though people may join a particular region closest to their home or place of work, all are free to enjoy activities in any region.
Each regional office co-ordinates a comprehensive programme of events which is advertised via the national and regional magazines, on the website and through specific mailings to branch members. Many members take part in our business and professional seminars, training courses, advisory clinics and social functions, and come to visit us at local agricultural shows and sporting fixtures. Each region regularly distributes an event programme to members, please contact your regional office for your region’s up-to-date list.
Country Landowner and Rural Business
The CLA’s full colour monthly magazine – Country Landowner and Rural Business – is exclusively distributed free to all members. It is the principal means of keeping members informed with the issues that affect them and their businesses as well as providing advertising and promotional opportunities for members (preferential advertising rates are available for CLA members). In addition, all regions currently produce either a regional magazine or a newsletter.
CLA Business Directory
The CLA Business Directory has become a valuable tool for sourcing key suppliers amongst CLA members both regionally and nationally. It is specifically tailored for CLA members and publicises the very wide range of skills and services that are offered by CLA member businesses.
Circulated to approximately 36,000 landowners and rural business managers throughout England and Wales, the CLA Business Directory – in print and online – continues to be one of the most cost effective means to help CLA members promote their businesses directly to a large rural audience.
Published annually, it is available throughout the year at shows and seminars and can be bought by members of the public. The online CLA Business Directory is updated each year to reflect changes in membership. It is available via the CLA website and directly at www.clabusinessdirectory.com
CLA London Branch
CLA London Branch provides the opportunity to join a specific interest group who have strong rural connections, both business and social, but who spend a good deal of their time in London. It is open to all CLA Landowning and Business & Professional members (not available to Friends of the CLA).
CLA London Branch consists of a regular series of policy-based and social meetings featuring headline speakers, followed by questions and discussion. Members have an unparalleled opportunity to meet, exchange views and share experience with others involved in landowning and rural economic matters, in particular with those from outside their own geographic or business area.
Members of CLA London Branch also have the opportunity to host London Branch meetings and to target their own guests or business clients at certain events.
For further information on CLA London Branch and how to join please visit www.cla.org.uk/londonbranch or write to: Verity Hawkins, CLA London Branch, 16 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PQ.
CLA Website
The public face of the CLA website gives an insight into the CLA and current rural issues. Regular articles on countryside and business topics sit alongside our campaign work, news and member benefits. Users will find the navigation easy to find the information or advice they need, with many of the documents and articles linked directly to the relevant CLA adviser.
Members can find out what is going on in their area by accessing their regional sections and each region also sends out regular e-news bulletins that link to information published on the site. Members can also download Guidance Notes from our Advice section and the site has many other useful features, such as a list of links to other organisations. Both members and the public can access the online version of the CLA Business Directory.
The CLA Game Fair
The CLA Game Fair is a world class event catering for the interests of everyone who lives, works or simply enjoys the pleasures of the countryside as well as the leading event for country sports enthusiasts.
The CLA Members’ Enclosure is the exclusive area within the Game Fair for members and their guests. It is situated in the very centre of the show and is therefore very conveniently located for all show areas.
Members can relax and entertain friends and colleagues and enjoy a wide range of food – from bacon rolls to full English breakfasts, from salads and hot sandwiches to three course lunches with waitress service (table reservations can be made in advance). A Pimms Bar, as well as a Main Bar, is open from lunchtime till late.
Wherever practicable, all food served in the CLA Members’ Enclosure is regionally or locally sourced. This demonstrates the CLA’s commitment to British agriculture and to providing unique, high quality, local food to the consumer, a policy further highlighted by the CLA’s Just Ask campaign – a major consumer awareness campaign to encourage people to Just Ask where the food on their plate comes from.
In 2008 The CLA Game Fair will be celebrating its 50th anniversary from Friday 25th – Sunday 27th July at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, which will once again provide an outstanding setting for this world class event.
